Some of our Recent Ground Penetrating Radar and Structural Investigation Projects in the Los Angeles California Area

Job Type:

Structural Investigation

Job Location:

Apartment Building: West Hollywood, CA

Work Performed:

Job Detail:

The purpose of the test program was to perform a Structural Investigation using Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) Scanning, exposure methods and concrete coring to determine the presence of reinforcement and determine the bar size, spacing, orthongonal direction, grout type, and concrete compressive strength.
  • 18 wall locations were scanned to determine if reinforcement was present and to determine the spacing and orthongonal direction of the reinforcement.
  • After the reinforcement spacing was determined, 8 small areas were opened to expose the reinforcement to be able to determine the bar size and whether it was partially or fully grouted.
  • 6 areas were drilled to remove concrete cores. The Cores were tested for compressive strength. Rebar extractions were performed in two areas.

Job Detail:

The purpose of the test program was to perform a Structural Investigation using Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) Scanning, exposure methods and concrete coring to determine the presence of reinforcement and determine the bar size, spacing, orthongonal direction, grout type, and concrete compressive strength.
  • 32 wall locations were scanned to determine if reinforcement was present and to determine the spacing and orthongonal direction of the reinforcement.
  • After the reinforcement spacing was determined, 12 small areas were opened to expose the reinforcement to be able to determine the bar size and whether it was partially or fully grouted.
  • 5-10 pilot hoes were were drilled per scan to verify if walls were partially or fully grouted.

Structural Investigation

Job Location:

South Myers Street, Los Angeles, CA

Work Performed:

Job Detail:

The purpose of this test project was to perform Structural Investigations on this building using Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) concrete scans, core drilling to discover concrete wall thickness, and conducting building separation measurements in various locations.

  • 5 Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) scans were performed on building wall locations to determine the presence, location and spacing of reinforcement steel including orthongonal direction of the reinforcement.
  • 3 concrete core specimens were core drilled from 3 different wall locations, including the partial removal of a non-bearing facade wall. Core holes were measured. Concrete cores were tested in-house at the IAS Accredited Specialized Testing Lab.
  • Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) scanning of warehouse concrete slab floor to determine location and spacing of wall panel steel reinforcing dowels.
  • Building separation exposure, measurement, and documentation.

Job Type:

Pull and shear Tests of Asphalt Slab

Job Location:

Hollister Ave, Santa Barbara, CA

Work Performed:

Job Detail:

The purpose of this test project was to perform pull and shear tests of an existing asphalt slab in preparation for building construction.

  • 3 locations were tested for asphalt pavement failure using shear testing

Job Type:

Proof Load Tension Tests

Job Location:

Hollister Ave, Santa Barbara, CA

Work Performed:

Job Detail:

The purpose of this project was to conduct proof load tension tests on 5/8″ anchors at the roof line to a proof load. All anchors tested held the max proof.

  • Tests were done on 5/8″ anchors at the roof line to a proof load
  • Points held for 3 minutes with no evidence of failure
  • All anchors tested were marked with orange paint
  • Results documented
