Specialized Testing qualifies nails, spikes, and staples to ICC-ES AC116, the acceptance criteria for nails and spikes. AC116 is the criteria ICC-ES applies before a nail or spike can be recognized in an evaluation report under the IBC and IRC.

Nails, spikes and staples testing is the process of subjecting nails, spikes and staples to a number of strenuous forces, including static tension, shear, and oblique forces as well as conducting proper functioning tests, and certain suitability tests according to ASTM and ICC standards.
ICC-ES AC116 is the criteria that governs this work. It covers nails and spikes, and it sets the requirements a fastener has to meet before ICC-ES will recognize it in an evaluation report.
